bullet  General Notes:

[Brooks.ged]

I have a photo of a portrait of him. He served in war of 1812. Nana
wrote a fair amount about him in her notes, and I found his name in Gone
to Georgia. I believe that years ago I found him in the 1840 census of
Georgia also and made some pencil notes on some crumbly paper at the
library in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. It was my first experience finding an
ancestor in the census, and I foolishly had gone to the library, a long
drive from Tulsa where I lived, without paper or pen. At this point I
have not checked the Military Archives for his record. dated these notes
3-29-95
He was an interpreter for the Indians in Delaware. He spole seven
languages. He was a legislator in Delaware (state legislator), but Aunt
Dot lost her records and doesn't know when.
Sue Brooks' bible records show Jacob R. Brooks soldier in War of
1812, born in Georgia 5-10-1787, died at age 82. Bible, or some record
says his father came from England. One record I read somewhere, possible
a combination of what it says on the back of his picture, or possibly
from Mormon records shows he was a Major in the 8th Georgia Infantry for
War of 1812. Nana's notes say his father's name was Stephen. Tam
Brooks' own letters say his grandfather, Stephen, was in the
Revolutionary War, seven years I think. My Aunt Dorothy Groves Meeker,
thinks she got her coloring of hair and skin tone from him. She had very
black hair, with a natural silver streak through middle age, and then
beautiful snow white hair in her nineties. She has brown eyes.
Mormon records check April 1995, in which
I was unable to telephone either submitter, showed quite a bit more
middle names for the children, so I entered them as correct, but
birthdates differed slightly, and the birth order was about the same for
all thirteen children. Sue Brook's records that say his father came from
England are probably wrong, as my family records show his great great
grandfather, William, is the one from England, and his father,
grandfather, and great grandfather, Stephen, John and Jacob were all
reared in America.
