Nana's notes show DeWitt Clinton Brooks same birth date as Sue Brooks'
bible record show, but it just says Clinton born 1834. He was called
Clint. He is the older brother who was imprisoned at Camp Morton,
Indiana (Yankee Prison) and escaped with Tam Brooks, my great
grandfather. He, Clint, is buried at Hickey Cemetery, outside of
Hillsboro, on the way to Whitney, Texas. I have visited his grave
personally. Mormon record checked April 1995 shows Dewitt Clinton Brooks
forn 20 Oct. 1834, Cobb, Ga. married to Mary Fowler and Martha Walthall.
He had eight children by Martha Walthall, five of whom were living in the
l940s when my grandmother wrote her notes. They were Mary Emma Beavers,
Albert C., now living in Edinburg, Tx, Savannah Knox, Jacob Reed Brooks,
and Sallie Whitworth. Some of the girls names are probably married
names. I did not put all these names in computer, nor the names of
children who were by his wife Mary Fowler.
