They had been married 20 years. Virginia was the mother of eight children, seven of which were still alive. Both he and Virginia and all their children were born in Mississippi. William John Blackburn one of the oldest citizens of this community passed away Monday morning about five o'clock. His death came as a shock to his many friends and relatives, who celebrated his 83rd birthday with him on fifth Sunday in March. His funeral was conducted by his pastor, Rev. Ellis, assisted by a former pastor, Rev. Moore of Decatur, who paid loving tribute to his life and Christian character. He leaves a companion, two daughters, Mrs. George Langford, and Mrs. Jewel Stamper, four sons, Benton, Bud, Clemit and Alphus, all from Conehatta, except Bud, who lives in Clarkesdale, one sister, Mrs. Burtus Eady and one brother, David Blackburn and a large number of grandchildren and reltives by whom he will be greatly missed.
A large number of friends and relatives from other communities attended the funeral among whom were Mrs. Henry Day, Mrs. Moore and Daniel Nester of Decatur and Johnie Ware and Mr. Bucklay of Union.
