W. J. Blackburn and B. F. Wyatt placed a bond in the amount of $200 on 22 Jan 1880 to assure the marriage of W. J. Blackburn and Virginia M. Brown. Both men signed their names and the bond was attested to by S. M. Adams, Clerk.

William John Blackburn one of the oldest citizens of this community passed away Monday morning about five o'clock. His death came as a shock to his many friends and relatives, who celebrated his 83rd birthday with him on fifth Sunday in March. His funeral was conducted by his pastor, Rev. Ellis, assisted by a former pastor, Rev. Moore of Decatur, who paid loving tribute to his life and Christian character. He leaves a companion, two daughters, Mrs. George Langford, and Mrs. Jewel Stamper, four sons, Benton, Bud, Clemit and Alphus, all from Conehatta, except Bud, who lives in Clarkesdale, one sister, Mrs. Burtus Eady and one brother, David Blackburn and a large number of grandchildren and reltives by whom he will be greatly missed.
A large number of friends and relatives from other communities attended the funeral among whom were Mrs. Henry Day, Mrs. Moore and Daniel Nester of Decatur and Johnie Ware and Mr. Bucklay of Union.

Arthur owned $800 in real property and $855 in personal property. Arthur and Margaret were born in Ireland. All of the children were born in Mississippi. Arthur and Margaret could not read and write. All of the older children had attended school and most could read and write. Arthur was a citizen.

They had been married 20 years. Virginia was the mother of eight children, seven of which were still alive. Both he and Virginia and all their children were born in Mississippi. His parents were born in Ireland. Her father was born in Georgia and mother in Mississippi. The boys all worked as farm laborers. Lillie was the only female working outside the house and was a school teacher. Alpheus was the only one in the family that could not read or write and had not attended school. W.J. owned the farm free of mortgage.

They had been married three years and it was a second marriage for both. Cora had borne four children, three of which were still alive. He was born in Mississippi as were his children. Cora was born in Georgia. His parents were born in Ireland and immigrated in 1845 and became naturalized citizens. Cora's parents were born in South Carolina. Alphus and Clement's mother was said to have been born in Georgia [not correct. . . Virginia was born in Mississippi]. The entire family could read and write. William owned his farm free of mortgage.
