31-year-old farmer, James M. Megee (Jun 1858) was living with his wife Francis E., 41 (Aug 1858), and children, Dora, 13 (Sep 1886), James M., nine (Mar 1891), Francis E., nine (Mar 1891), and Paul, five (Nov 1894), in Bradley Township, Van Buren County, Arkansas. Also living in the household was 72-year-old Lydia Hutto (Nov 1827), his mother-in-law and Abbron Stevison, 26 ( May 1874), a boarder. James and Francis had been married 23 years. Francis had borne ten children, six of whom were alive at the time of the census. According to the census, Lydia had borne one child who was living. Francis was born in Mississippi and Lydia, her mother, in South Carolina. The rest of the family was born in Mississippi. James' parents were born in Mississippi. Francis' father was born in Alabama. Abbron was from Tennessee as were his parents. Abbron worked as a farm laborer James, Francis, and Dora could read and write as could Lydia and Abbron. The farm was enumerated on farm schedule #12.

Farmer, Monroe J. Megee, 52, was living with his wife, Emeline F., 52, and children, Dora, 22, James, 19, ama, 19, Paul, 15, and Lee, nine, in Van Buren County Arkansas. Also living in the household was Luiza Hutto, his mother-in-law, 82. Monroe and Emeline were married at age 33. Emeline had borne 11 children seven of which were alive at the time of the census. Luiza had borne nine children, seven of whom were alive at the time of the census. Monroe was born in Arkansas as were his parents. Emeline was born in Mississippi, her father and Alabama, and mother in South Carolina. Luiza was born in Mississippi and her parents in South Carolina. All of the children were born in Arkansas. The entire family except for Lee and Luiza could read and write. They owned their farm home free and clear of mortgage and it was enumerated on the farm schedule #57.

4 "Fred Short and Miss Emma Megee marry Oct. 20th," (Clinton, Van Buren County, Arkansas) Van Buren County Democrat, 1 Nov 1912, p. 2, col. 3; At nine o'clock Sunday morning Oct. 20th, 1912, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Monroe Megee, occurred the marriage of their youngest daughter, Miss Emma and Fred Short, both of Damascus. The ceremony was perfromed by Rev. Frank Sims. Emma as we all call her, is a young woman of lovely character and a member of a very highly respected family. Fred is a young mand of amiable disposition and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Short living between Bee Branch and Damascus. His family is also well known and highly respected.
