  General Notes:

The tree in the picture is an old maple. The county courthouse once stood nearby, and, when the tree was a sapling, it is reputed that the top of the tree was bitten off by General Andrew Jackson's horse.

Later, the county seat moved to Asheboro. The courthouse was torn down and the courthouse steeple was used as a well house in their front yard for many years.

Madison married Nanie. (Nanie was born in Aug 1869 in NC.)
