General Notes: [O.Fr.,=sprig of broom; he usually wore a sprig in his helmet], 1113-51, count of Anjou; son of Fulk, count of Anjou and king of Jerusalem.In 1128 he married Matilda, daughter of King Henry I of England and widow of Holy Roman Emperor Henry V. After Henry I's death (1135) Geoffrey, hitherto occupied in complex feuds with Angevin barons and rival nobles, undertook to conquer Normandy, to which he laid claim through his wife. After 1139, Matilda attempted the conquest of England from her cousin, King Stephen, who had gained the crown after Henry I's death. Geoffrey did not accompany her, being still engaged in the conquest of Normandy, which he completed in 1144. In 1147 he undertook a crusade with King Louis VII of France. In 1150, Geoffrey and Matilda ceded Normandy to their son Henry (later King Henry II of England), who founded the English Angevin dynasty. Geoffreyis also known as Geoffrey the Fair. Noted events in his life were: • Acceded: Count of Anjou and Maine, 1129. • He was a Duke of Normandy from 1144 - 1150. Geoffrey had a child with Adelaide of Angers.
NOTE: WURTS' MAGNA CHARTA, pp. 158-168 inclusive,gives sixty nine Generations of lineal descent from No. 1, Edward the Great, (Aedd Mawr) to No. 69, Geoffrey Plantagenet. This also shows Geoffrey's descent from the FRANKISH KINGS, Nos. 1, to and including 35; also his descent from No. (6) (HELI) Beli the Great through LUD, through TUANTIUS, through CYNVELIN (CYMBELINE), through AVIRAGUS, through MERIC (MARIUS), through EURGEN, through GLADYS, wife of No. 39, (LLEUVER MAWR) LUCIUS THE GREAT. And page 168 Wurt's Magna Charta shows that both Geoffrey Plantagenet and his wife, Matilda, or Maud, of England, were descendants of WILLIAM THE CONQUEROR, who as above stated, was descended from CHARLEMAGNE.

Geoffrey next married Empress Matilda Alice Normandy, daughter of King Henry I Beauclerc of England and Matilda Edith Canmore, on 22 May 1128 in Le Mans Cathedral, Anjou. (Empress Matilda Alice Normandy was born before 5 Aug 1102 in Winchester, Middlesex, England, died on 10 Sep 1167 in Abbey of Notre Dame des Pres, Rouen and was buried in Bec Abbey, Le Bec-Hellouin, Eure, France.)
