Han opptrer i 1010 som greve i Schweinachgau og var senere greve i Donaugau.Adalbert etterfulgte sin bror Henrik, død i 1018, som markgreve i den bayerske Ostmark. Samtiden anså ham med rette som den egentlige grunnlegger av Østerrike.Adalbert flyttet sin residens fra Melk til Tulu og etterlot det meget utvidede markgrevskap til sønnen Ernst.________________________________Adalbert of Austria:Adalbert the Victorious was Margrave of Austria from 1018 until his death. He extended the Eastern border of the then small Eastern Mark of Bavaria as far as the rivers Morava/March and Leitha and supported King Henry III in his battles against Hungary and Bohemia. He resided in the Lower Austrian Babenberg castle of Melk, where Stift Melk was to develop later. Noted events in his life were: • Acceded: Margrave of Austria, 1018. Adalbert married Frowiza of Venezia, daughter of Ottone (Pietro) Orseolo di Venezia and Maria of Hungary, circa 1020 in Venice, Italy. (Frowiza of Venezia was born circa 1010 in Venice, Italy and died after 1058.) Marriage Notes: Frowiza og Adalbert hadde følgende barn:ca. 1021: Leopold, markgreve av Neumark.1030: Ernst, markgreve av Østerrike.
