Hennes far, Krateros, var vinstue-vert på Peloponnes. Theofano (Anastasia) var i 956 gift med keiser Romanos II. Hun ektet senere, antagelig i slutten av 963, Romano's etterfølger, keiser Nicophorus Phokas. Etter at denne ble myrdet 10.12.969 ble hun gift med keiser Johannes I Tzimiskes, men ble selv brent på øya Prote ca. 970.
