Mary Trotter
General Notes:
The following excerpt was taken from 16 MAR 1993 LETTER FROM J. S. "JEFF" COLTRANE, JR., 2716 RIDDICK DRIVE, RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA 17609; TO SAM HANCOCK, 3059 CRICKET LANE, DAYTON, OHIO 45414-2139: You mentioned that a history of the Dicks family gives David Coltrane's wife as Mary Wallace. That error more than likely came from Frazier's book (1404) (DESCENDANTS OF DAVID COLTRANE AND JAMES FRAZIER OF NORTH CAROLINA). Her name was Mary Trotter, daughter of James Trotter, tailor and innkeeper of Edenton, NC. After David's death around 1745, she remarried three times and her last husband was a Wallace. Frazier found her will signed Mary Wallace in which she mentions her son William Coltrane. If he had done some more research, he would have found the three marriage bonds showing her marriages after David's death.
Mary married David Coltrane, son of Patrick Coltrane and Elizabeth Stuart. (David Coltrane was born in Scotland.)
