Madison E. Brown, 35, and his wife Nannie, 40 were living in Randleman, North Carolina with their children, William M., 16, David L., 14, Elliott E., 2, Abigail O., 10, Cors Jane, 7, Mary E., 5, Nathaniel J., 2, and Ida Marell, two months. All eight of the children born to Nannie were living. The four older children were in school and could read, write, and speak English as could their parents. Madison owned his farm free nd clear and the three oldest boys, William, David and Elliott were working on the farm. All members of the family were born in North Carolina as were their parents.
E. E. Brown, 32, and wife, Lena, 30, lived on Hwy 62 in Asheboro with his children, Bertha, 10, Edna, 7, Ruth, 5, Gladys, 3, and Violet. He worked odd jobs at a filling station.
